The United People’s Party Liberal is a political party founded in Assam’s Bodoland Territorial
Region
(BTR). Founded on August 5, 2015, it was previously known as the Peoples Coordination for Democratic
Rights (PCDR) before evolving into its current avatar as UPPL. Headquartered in Kokrajhar – the City
of
Peace, UPPL’s foundational ideology is rooted in Peace, Equality, Justice and Progress.
Having been granted its reserved symbol of "Tractor Chalata Kisan" by the Election Commission of
India,
UPPL actively participated in the 2020 Bodoland Territorial Council Election under the presidency of
Shri Pramod Boro. UPPL was successful in winning the support & trust of a significant cross-section
of
BTR’s society, and Shri Pramod Boro assumed office as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bodoland
Territorial Council.
In 2021, UPPL won 6 of the 8 seats it contested in the Assam Legislative Assembly Election, and
contributed to the formation of the current Government of Assam. Subsequently, in the 2024 Lok Sabha
Elections, UPPL contested the 1 No. Kokrajhar (ST) Lok Sabha constituency and won a handsome
victory.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble CEM and UPPL President Shri Pramod Boro, the party continues to work
towards fostering peace, accelerating progress, and working for the welfare of the people of BTR,
irrespective of caste, creed, and religion.
Overview
The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is a strong political force in the Bodoland Territorial
Region
(BTR). Registered under the Election Commission of India (Regd. No. 56/163/2015-16/PPS-1), UPPL was
established on 5th August 2015 in Dotoma, Kokrajhar district, with a mission to bring revolutionary
changes for sustainable development and lasting peace in Assam, particularly in BTR.
In the last BTC elections, UPPL secured 12 seats out of 40. In honor of the BTR Accord and under the
leadership of Sri Pramod Boro, UPPL formed a government in the BTC Council for the 2020-2025 term in
alliance with BJP and GSP after extensive discussions.
UPPL was born in the same place where Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was born.
